windows 2000 I/O operation

I was working with a web page and the system suddenly went to the "blue
screen". There was a message there that I should have copied, but didn't.
If I remember correctly the emssage was generally about a failure, something
about a kernel and a stck. Sorry for not getting the exact message.

I rebooted the computer twice (wouldn't boot once) and have since run
spyware and antivirus programs.

On the reboot that worked, I received this message: "An I/O operation
initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registery could not read
in, or write out, or flush one of the lines that contain the system image of
the registery"

Does anyone have any idea of what this is about and what I need to do to fix
it?

Check Event Viewer for errors. When you view the logged events in Event
Viewer (double-click them in the right-hand pane) in the upper right corner,
third button down is a copy to clipboard, then you can paste in the body of
a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Also check Device Manager for error codes and or non-starting devices.

I have run AVG and there is a change noted in:
c:\winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (no further details noted)

As far as the event viewer goes, what about al the previous errors before
today that are listed? Also, is the application viewr log events of any use
in solving this?

Opened up device manager from the control panel, but did not see any thing
indicating an error.

Is there anything else I should do such as defraging or?

1.) You have some bad hardware. These articles may help you determine what
has failed.

2.) You'll find it in Device Manager under Non-Plug and Play drivers. You'll
need to View|Show Hidden Devices I believe the driver is Adaptec and has to
do with Adaptec Easy CD Creator software.
