I am trying to format c drive. The problem is that windows
2000 won't let me. It says "Windows can't format this
drive, try quiting any disk utilities or programs using
this drive and make sure no window is displaying the
context of the drive. Then try formating again." Can you
tell me how to format c drive?
Thanks, Rostyk

You didn't mention the desired end result. To wipe the drive, some ways
include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk and delete all partition
information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or boot the Windows 2000
CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point, delete the existing
NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the install. Or use a utility
named delpart. Once removed you can partition and format the drive as you
wish.

I am trying to wipe out c drive and then reinstall
windowns 2000 again. First boot windows 2000. Ok I think I
know how to remove the particion of C drive. Then I abort.
But once partiion is removed, what do I do to format the c
the drive again?
thanks, Rostyk

Once you have deleted the partition, don't abort out of
the boot sequence. Delete the partition, then create a
new partition, and then format the drive in NTFS. After
thats done, reinstall win2k

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
