I recently upgraded a 98 computer to 2000 a few weeks ago
and did not do a clean install. The booting of this
computer has been in the area of 10-15 minutes. Altho'
it would boot. Event Viewer pointed at dhcp dropping and
asctrm. The dhcp I think was Ok since I may have lost
connection with the rest of the network. (It is a home
network with 3 computers). I deleted Real Player for the
asctrm message.

I have been in the process of upgrading the drivers and
the last one installed was for an HP USB CD/rewriter.
When I tried to restart the OS I got errors in program
mis.exe (actually, twice) ; and both had to terminate
with End Now.

Since this reboot I have been NOT been able to start the
computer at all. Any hints or suggestions??

Thanks in advance

The most obvious suggestion is to try "last known good" since it was a
driver update that caused the problem. If that doesn't work then try
safe mode. If those don't work then we will need the error that you get
when the system boots.

The computer is working now. I brought it over to the
workbench and was ready to stop swapping out drives; but
it started with no problem. Even booted up relatively
quickly (< 1 minute!).

I did see the cd light go on in the days previous. Is it
possible the outlet was bad on the surge protector and
was supplying only minimal power, i.e. power to turn a Cd
but not a power supply or a disk drive??

Anyway, I am now up and running.

Thanks
