Windows 200 update hangs after "nearly" completing

Windows update hangs. Here is the scenario.
I visit the Windows Update site.
Scan for Updates.
Determine the updates not yet installed.
Download them.

Here is where things go wrong.
The update's progress bar completes as if it has finished
the update. However, it never (hours and hours) reports
that it has finished. Eventually I close the download box
even though it says the update will not complete if I do.
I have let this run all night so I am fairly certain I
have waited long enough.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Chuck,
I did not see any items there that addressed my
problem. I tried the two that looked closest but no
success. It is actually the install that is hanging.
When it appears to finish update.exe just sits there using
100% CPU and never reports it is finished.
