How is it possible to have an IE task running without a visible front-end?
We have a problem with windowless iexplore tasks running in the background
and consuming cpu and memory resources. It would help to know how they are
created to try and control them.

Hi,

Did you check for spyware and adware? Adaware and Spybot could help solving
this.

Kind regards

Hans

Thanks for the reply.

We do periodically pick up spyware and adware. But I don't understand how
they could create an iexplore.exe process that has no visual component. How
is that possible? That is, how is is possible to kill the windows portion of
iexplore without killing the process (or how is it possible to start it
without one)?

I appreciate your input.

Hi,
laybe this is not really a IE process but just the IE ActiveX... There's an
ActiveX which let you use the IE core in order to display webpages in your
applications so don't bother searching how it has been done because it
certainly the way they used...

I don't know but Sun Java's jusched.exe does it to me each time
I reboot. I just kill the damn thing using Task Manager each time.
I haven't bothered trying to figure out how to disable it.
I'm guessing it is is a lame method of checking for updates
but I also have never tried connecting while my system was in that state.
(It would have to be a manual dial because it also inhibits OE from starting.)
Not getting at least a prompt about it makes it look evil IMO.
