I have reloaded WondowsXP Home and the windows sounds were working. The
windows sounds are not working now. One sysmptom is on the speaker icon
slider used to give an audible sound that varied with the slider position.
Email alerts no longer sound, windows start up chimes and shut down chimes
no longer sound.

I have gon into the sounds menu on the control pannel under the sounds tab
where the various wave settings are shown and the windows startup, email
delivery, windows shutdown are there and work it is just that they do not
operate on the machine as they had been working

I find no settings on any of the sound menues to turn off these sounds or
turn them on.Wodering if there is some place I am not looking to control
these items

Is it on board sound ?, if so, the sound drivers to make the chip work will
be on your motherboard cd.

Did you reload the drivers for your sound card?

The windows chimes and all sounds ate there in the Audio menu in the control
pannel. I have gon through the sound troubleshooter guide and all sound card
features are enabled.

I reinstalled the sound pc card and it still did not restore the sounds when
windows has mail, starts, or is shut down.

I went back to an earlier restore point when windows was working properly
and still the sounds were not restored to the computer
