Win XP Pro Sp2

I've got the following problem.
I never had any problems with capturing video's from my camera ( JVC
GR-D20E)and store them on my harddisk.
All of a sudden my PC doesn't recognize the camera when I connect it to the
firewire.

The camera does not have a function to enable or disable the DV-in port, so
that's not the problem
I've turned of Zonealarm, still no recognition.
The case is, that my brother has got a camera that's exact similar of mine,
so we couldt test some things.

With his camera, firewirecard and cable, the camera's were not recognized by
my PC
according to the device manager, both cards work correct.

When we turn the thing around and connct my camera to his PC, the pc
immediately recognizes the camera....

Something is wrong with my XP....
I hope some clever guy or girl can help me !

TIA

I had the same problem and it was solved by replacing the Firewire
adapter card. Even if your Device Manager shows that the Firewire
card is installed and working properly, it does not tell you if the
cable connection port is working correctly.

A Firewire adapter card can be purchased for as little as $19.95.

I've already tried my brother firewire PCI card. That didn't work either.
We replaced the card back to my brothers computer, connected it to my camera
and it worked.
I've also removed the firewirecard a couple of times out of the device
manager and restarted the computer.
Window "saw" the card and installed it again.
In a posting in an other newsgroup, i read that it would help sometimes to
connect your computer to the power adapter.
I've also tried that, but sadly, that didn't work either.....

Hello,

Have you considered the possibility that your motherboard...

1) has a micro fracture causing one of the pins to the PCI slot to fail
2) the PCI slot may be damaged or contain a hair or similar causing at
least one pin connection to fail

or the system requires a re-install of directshow (sub component of
directX) the interface between computer and camera controls?

To install DirectShow read the FAQ I post in here and follow the steps
describing the installation of SP2, DirectX etc. You should follow the
steps exactly as described

Truthfully, I am not an Instant Expert, But I know someone who is going to
have to try a LOT harder

So in otherwords the 1st possibility of John's is easy to try, use a
different PCI slot and see what happens.
