I have to install one of those service packs that did not finish installing
last week. I am guessing that it did not finish installing because my
antivirus needed to be off. How do I turn it off ( AVG free version)- and
how can I pick up the installation where it left off. When I go to the
website and view installation history, the service pack status says 'in
progress'. then is says read more. but I dont know even what the "Q"number
is. If I find which one it was, can i pick to install that one manually???
please help.

[[First and most important, it's essential to understand that Qfecheck does
not tell you if an update you might need is missing. It simply tells you if
an update you have chosen to install on the system is properly installed.
It's still up to you to determine if an update is needed for your particular
situation.]]

How to Obtain Qfecheck.exe
Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional
The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download
Center:
Download Q282784_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe now

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=35468

===================
Download and install Qfecheck.exe.

Start | Run | Type: cmd | OK |
Type: QFECHECK /v | ENTER

Will list Hotfixes Identified and if Current on system or if there is a
problem.

Shows the Q or KB number. You can copy and paste to Notepad.
Up to you to figure out what you have or do not have. :o)
