Window themes & styles

After a pc crash on saturday (13/09/03) i can no longer
access the styles option on the display properties.

I have recently done a system update to attempt to cure
the fault (15/09/03) but no joy. Also i downloaded and
installed several new themes and styles, but all that
happens is that the background changes along with the
colour of the task bars but the look of the desktop is
that of the classic windows 98.

If anyone can assist me in fixing this problem i would be
most greatful
