Window size, etc. no longer retained (userdata persistency)

Since a few weeks ago, ControlPanel window size (MAXIMIZED in my case) is no
longer retained on reboot and even while in session after 3-4 hours it loses
window size - opens up at wrong location/size. Additionally a few View
settings get lost e.g. NetworkConnections don't remember that I want
"detailed" veiw and not "list" - it remembers settings for a few hours only,
but used to be permanent, so how can I fix it??

Also, Taskbar->tray area almost NEVER remembered to keep my dialup status
icon hidden even if I connect at the same speed/same service (hence same
"label"), it's not as bad as Window size amnesia but I'd like to know why
userdata persistency fails on this item as well.

Appreciate your response and will answer other questions on this Newsgroup
if I know answer.

#2 The Bytes Sent Recieved keeps changing. You can turn it off altogether in
the connection Properties. If you want to look then Start - Connect To -
right click the active connection - Status.(to turn off the icon Properties)

#1 Start - Control Panel - Folder Settings - View - Reset Settings. They get
crosslinked. You network is being saved, just another folder is getting it.
Or so MS says. But I think if it's cross linked then it should read and
write to the same key. Still mine don't break so I don't get a chance to
examine what is happening.

I have exactly the same problem. After install -
everything OK. About a month later, opening explorer
windows start opening as maximized instead of how I left
them. Steadily gets worse. Never had this problem with
Win2000. First thought it was due to having less than
100MB free on my OS drive. But after reinstalling XP the
last time, I have ensured that my partition with the OS
has had over 1GB free at all times. This maximizing issue
is extremely annoying and may force me to go back to
Windows 2000. Have not found any solution in the Knowledge
base.
