window messenger error menssager

everytime i try to use messenger, i get an error message that says " windows messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. sorry for the inconvenience. " Please help! this has been going on for a few weeks now

Which Windows update did you install. This is driving me
crazy...it seems to be doing this on all my messengers
(windows, yahoo and AIM) Any advice would be great.
