We are on version Excel 2000 sp3. We have a case where
the same workbook file is listed twice in the window
menu. The only difference between the name is a a colon
and a number. ex. step7f_z.xls:1 step7f_z.xls:2

What is this? Can one of them be deleted?

Asha,

This means you have 2 windows to the same file. This is sometimes useful to
flip between different views of a workbook.

To remove it, just close (via the X button) one of the windows, the other
stays open but will loose its numeric suffix.

Someone has gone to Window>New Window and made a duplicate view of the same
worksheet. Handy for viewing separate sections of a sheet or more than one
sheet or workbook if used in conjunction with Window>Arrange.

Use the "x" to close one, then resize the remaining window and Save the
workbook.
