Hi, George.
Your problem is not the same as we are discussing in this thread. Please
post a new message to start a new thread. You might use a descriptive
Subject such as "Lost 8,000 Emails". (Chances are, from your description,
they are not lost permanently, but just misplaced and can be recovered.)
Windows Mail (and Windows Live Mail and their predecessor, Outlook Express)
handle both Email and Newsgroups, but manage them somewhat differently. We
are discussing newsgroup messages in this thread. You are asking about
Email messages. Emails are generally addressed TO you; newsgroup messages
are like postings on a bulletin board, which can be read by anybody in the
world, not just by the addressee. Emails are in the Inbox folder and can
be - and SHOULD BE - moved to other folders for permanent (or
semi-permanent) retention and archival, if desired. Newsgroup messages
don't go to the Inbox; they are downloaded into a folder for each subscribed
newsgroup and are automatically deleted from our hard drives after some
period of time (see Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance tab). Lost
newsgroup posts can simply be downloaded again, so long as they are on the
news server. Email messages are typically deleted from the server as soon
as they are downloaded, so lost messages might not be available any longer,
especially if they were sent more than a few days ago.
When you post your new question, please make it clear whether you are
talking about email or news messages, so that responders can make
intelligent suggestions for recovery of your lost messages.
