Window File Protection

Hi,

I ran the Disk Cleanup on a Windows 2000 server and stupidly chose to
"Compress Old Files". It ran the process and then came back with the
Window File Protection error saying that "Files that are required for
windows have been replaced by unknown versions" and it asks for the
"Service pack 4" cd.

I have tried all the cd's that I have but it won't accept any of them.
I have made sure that the group policy allowed for all users to access
the drive.

I tried to run sfc /scannow but it told me that it needed a cd to load
the dllcache (which is not present on this server) and it also refused
any of the disks I offered.

Any ideas? I am concerned that the machine is now unstable
(considering it did not tell me what files were now unknown ....

Is it possible (or even a good idea) to copy the files from the
dllcache folder of another server to this one ??

thanks for any help you can provide

Hi Dave,

thanks for the suggestion. I am looking that link over. Just
curious though .. do you think that just copying over the dllcache
folder from another server would do the trick? It is my understanding
that SFC is already supposed to look for that folder by default. I
believe that both servers are running the same service packs and have
the same updates applied.

Bad idea?

Try creating an integrated install point and point SFC to the new \i386
directory.
