window explorer & desktop

When every time I boot up the computer, all I have on my
desktop is the background. No icons or nothing. And when
I go shutdown by Ctrl+Alt+Delete, it said that window
explorer.exe is not found. I tried to reinstall
winexplorer.exe from the Win2000 CD nothing happens. Can
someone please help? Thanks in advance.
 
Can you boot into safe mode?
The file name is explorer.exe, but you may not need to reinstall it - if you
can log in in safe mode, you can check the system event log for hints as to
what may be causing the problem.
 
yes, I tried in safe mode and nothing was there. I went
ahead and reinstall win2k. Things seems to be ok now, I
just need to reinstall all the drivers. Thanks.
