I installed window defender but when I went to run a scan I got this message:
"This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not
found.Re-installing the application may fix the problem"
It did not ....has any body any idea how to resolve this problem
help is VERY WELCOME ..in plain english not in complicated PC LANGUAGE...

If you are seeing an error message stating MSVCR80.DLL is missing, please
delete c:\program files\windows defender\MSASCui.exe.manifest and let me
know if this resolves the issue

Above's the fix, straight from the horses mouth. Look carefully at the file
that he suggests deleting--note that it has a double-suffix--.exe.manifest.

You want to delete that .manifest file, and not any other. If you want to
be safer about it you can choose to rename it or move it to a location of
your choice, rather than deleting it, but deleting this particular file is
safe.

The MSVCR80.DLL file Is not in the folder that the program expexts to find
it. Do a search for MSVCR80.DLL file and when you find it, copy it and then
paste it in the System 32 folder with the other dll files it should take care
of the problem. This should help with any other programs that are looking for
it.
