Window Colors in XP

I am more than frustrated.

I've been working with computers since I was five and programming them for
longer than I can remember and I can't freaking figure out how to make the
stupid colors change.

It used to be easy. Now they just won't let you.

Right click on desktop, hit Properties.
Choose Appearance tab.
Hit Advanced.
Spend a while getting the colors tweaked just right.
Hit okay.
And EVERYTHING'S DELETED, except the 3D colors and a few text box changes.
It won't let me keep my other color customizations.

I tried it under several different styles, even tried creating a new theme.
Nothing worked. Any suggestions, or has Microsoft finally REALLY gone mad?

Thanks,
Vintage

I agree that the Advanced window is cumbersome to use.
I did not see in your post where your clicked on Apply. Did you?

Yes, I did. It changes everything except the title bar color.

I download windowblind from stardock.com and got a theme for XP. I think
that's just about the only way you can do it.

Well, XP sure is not user-friendly. I use the Windows Classic Style, and I
can pretty much get the colors I want from it, but you now have so many
options with WindowBlinds, who cares what XP offers?
Enjoy.
