Booting Windows 2000 Pro which connects to our office server. had a Norton
Antivirus 2003 to 2006 upgrade issue and now all that displays on desktop
and programs list are ;.lnk files and message telling us associations lost
and to use control panel to restore them. Cannot access control panel or any
properties options as those associations are lost also.

Help.

If You have a computer with same application installed try to use the
assoc command on the healty computer "assoc >abc.txt.Then open the file
in excel and and add assoc in a column beside every
..xxx=fileassociation.xxx,save the file as an batch file and copy i with
and a renamed command.com to command.exe to usb or diskette.
On the corrupt computer start taskmanager and run the command.exe and
the batch file.
Good luck!

Created abc.txt and renamed abc.bat. Copied to usb drive. Tried running from
task manager and get cannot get the command to do anyting.

Created abc.txt as you suggested and renamed to abc.bat and copied to usb
drive.
Copied command.com to drive and renamed command.exe
Opened task manager on problem computer.
Tried File -> Run and browsed to My computer, the usb drive and clicked on
command.exe. Would not allow a command parameter and would not open giving
the same "file does not have a program associated with it." I cannot open
any programs including a cmd window to enter DOS commands.
