It appears as though there is at least one "SOFTWARE"
file failure reported in this news group each week. I
just had a failure one one of my computers. As happens
to others, I have not completed a backup of the registry
files.
It seems some type of automatic backup process would help
reduce the impact of this type of failure. Fot example,
if the software installer would backup SYSTEM, SOFTWARE,
etc. files at the completion of an install, and place the
backed up files in a folder marked with a date. Users
would have something to work with. While hard drive
space is not currently a problem, it would still be wise
to limit the backups to the last 10 installs.
Having to rebuild the system and deal with updates is not
a very desirable experience.
Is Microsoft doing anything to reduce the impact of this
type of failure?
