Hello, I'm looking at possibly buying a Asus K8V Deluxe 754 motherboard and
wondered if anyone here uses one and what they think of it.

Also, I've not used S-ATA before and have some questions. The K8V m/b comes
with both S-ATA and IDE.
1. Are you limited to the amount of HDD's you can use with S-ATA like you
are with IDE?
2. Do you have a primary and secondary S-ATA disk on each storage controller
like IDE?
3. Do you attach S-ATA disks onto the m/b on a single cable in paralell, or
does each disk plug into the m/b separetly
4. If I don't want to buy a new S-ATA disk now, can I just use an old IDE
one I have

Thanks

people seem to like it, but if you were planning on buying a
new video card soon too, I'd go with nForce4 chipset board
instead... PCI express instead of AGP, though of course you
need AGP if you need support for a current (AGP) card.

http://forums.amdmb.com has a lot of users of that board.

yes, however many SATA that (or whichever board you choose)
has.
2. Do you have a primary and secondary S-ATA disk on each storage controller
like IDE?
no

3. Do you attach S-ATA disks onto the m/b on a single cable in paralell, or

single, separately
4. If I don't want to buy a new S-ATA disk now, can I just use an old IDE
one I have

yes

SATA supports one drive per channel, it's a point to point connection.

I've just fitted a K8V SE Deluxe with a SATA (boot) and an IDE drive. I
couldn't get the IDE on the PRI_IDE and get the PC to boot from the SATA,
switching the DVD and CD to the PRI_IDE and the IDE to the SEC_IDE cured it.

It has 2 SATA connectors, which I think only takes one HDD each, + 2 RAID
connectors

Yes

Single cable to each connector
