Sorry if this is partially off-topics, but I don't know other places ...
I have to develop a user interface program for an industrial automation
plant.
Software is made in c# and support Wince and pocketpc devices.
I want to know if someone can suggest a device supporting the CF with just
some basic feature: lcd monitor, ethernet interface (wired, not wireless),
and that is not portable (I have to fix it on the wall)...
I just need a device to fix it on a wall, and connect to the ethernet, to
look like a smart display ... and monitor real time data parameters. I
cannot find a cheap solution ...

Thanks in advance for any help,
Best regards,
A.

Yes, this is an intellingent device .... so cheap is relative ...
I think that around 800$ is acceptable... less is better ...
I dont need anythings other than a 300$ pocketpc ... but not removable...

Best regards,
A.

I'd say you are better off getting the customer(s)/client(s) on board and
collectivelly spec the hardware and make a choice. The hardware will be the
dominant cost factor.

We have exactly such a hardware platform (with many configurations) but we
do not sell it on its own :-(

Yep. We don't have anything that cheap. If the PPC size is all you need,
you can probably build a fixed-mount bracket to hold it on the wall...

ok, but what is your price range ? Do you have some web-site catalog info ?
Is very hard to find anythings on the net of this kind of equipment ... so
i'm interested maybe not for now, but for the next time.
The device below is priced at about 800 euro, so can be interesting ... but
can I load my custom program ? ... I'm not sure ...

Yes, I have noticed your solution ... is exactly the hardware I need ... but
unfortunatly I have not such high numbers to build a custom hardware
solutions ...

The links you provide are very interesting solutions, but almost all for the
mobile market ...no 'fix on the wall' solution..

A.

buy a cheep older device on ebay take it apart and fix it to the wall

yes, this is a 'home made' solution ... and I think it will work ....
But I have to sell it on my client and it is not very professional ...

The reason you're probably fining it hard is that the options are just about
unlimited, so it's tough to make a device that fits a "general" purpose.
How many do you want? Do you want an integrated housing or will you be
providing that? What type of LCD are you after (passive/active)? What
resolution and color depth? Will a standard monitor work for you? What
types of communication do you need (J1708, RS485, CAN, etc)? Do you need
digital or analog I/O? Do you need a 4, 5 or 8-wire touchscreen? How much
RAM? How much persistent storage? Any other hardware interfaces? How about
ruggedization? Shock/vibe/temp range?

Your CF searches start and end here

I have enclosed the answer to the specs you asked for ...
The main characteristics is a small, lcd device with one ethernet rj45.
This simple combination is hard to find ... I have found expansive,
industrial, 17" display lcd, ruggerized, etc ... but a 'simply' CE device
with a small touch lcd and ethernet (like a pocketpc) is hard to find ...
any link and suggestion is very appreciated ...
How many do you want?
6 for now.
Do you want an integrated housing or will you be providing that? integrated

What type of LCD are you after (passive/active)? active

What resolution and color depth?
standard 320x240 is good.
Will a standard monitor work for you?
no, if you mean CRT
What types of communication do you need (J1708, RS485, CAN, etc)?
I need only ethernet ...
Do you need digital or analog I/O?
no, already on the field
Do you need a 4, 5 or 8-wire touchscreen?
integrated on the lcd display
How much RAM?
32 is good
How much persistent storage?
64 is good
Any other hardware interfaces?
no, only ethernet (rj45)
How about ruggedization?
ip 54 is good but not necessary
Shock/vibe/temp range?
fixed indoor.

Sure, we have a sales office near Milan and you can take a look at the
product features at

http://www.lanpoint.com/italy/index.asp

Pricing is set locally and the Euro is high right now...

Yes, you can use eMbedded Visual C++ or Visual Studio.NET/C#/VB.NET to write
custom programs for the device. It's running Windows CE.NET 4.2 and has
..NET CF in 'ROM' from the factory.

Really I think your best bet is what's been suggested. Take an existing PPC
and either make a bracket for it or an entirely new enclosure. In low
volumes just a board and LCD/inverter/touchscreen is going to probably run
you $800+
