Hi,

I've treated myself to a new A7N8X deluxe (OS is Win98SE). Shutting
down works OK. However, when the computer is supposed to restart (e.
g. during software installation) it shuts down and then hangs so that
I need to press the reset button to start up again.

Can anybody help me fix this?

Thanks
Klaus

What drivers do you have installed? I recommend the latest from nVidia
(2.41 still I think, haven't checked for a while)

I'd also recommend Win2K or XP, driver support is better along with memory
management and multi tasking.

Me too with Win98 and WMe, no mather drivers. I dont have found the
solution.

With XP the restart is good.

I had this problem until I removed all the adware and spyware with AdAware
(free)
and then switched to Mozilla Firebird instead of MSIExplorer. Now AdAware
can't
hardly find anything to delete :^) Just a guess, tho' <Lo

This is a common problem, it's almost always caused by software, but
there is no single solution, and in many cases the problem ends up never
being resolved.

That said, network cards and drivers cause the problem more often than
anything else, so you might make sure that you have the latest drivers,
and that any network cards not in use are disabled in device manager.
Also, a network card not actually connected to a network (e.g. LAN cable
unplugged) will often cause the problem. Also, there is an issue with
the drivers for some models of the SoundBlaster Live! card.

Beyond that, there are troubleshooting guides in the MS knowledgebase,
but you can spend days troubleshooting this and still never finding an
answer.
