I had several responses to a simliar post that did not answer the
question. I'd be most grateful to hear from someone who will do so.

After deletions of unwanted .exe files in a user directory, Windows
ran the hard drive nearly continuously and after Win start-up a pop-up
claimed there is a "MOUSE" statement in autoexec.bat that requires DOS
compatibility mode to reduce page swapping. There is no
such statement in autoexec.bat.

Is anyone familiar with this problem?

I have not seen this particular problem but I have seen a similar
problem where Windows was continuously running the paging files.

I thought it was a virus but it was too much tinkering on my ppart
caused the problems.

It was a long time ago I used 98SE but as I recall I did an SFC check
run and re-installed the exe files I had removed.

Any help?

Yes, thank you for the thoughtful response.
