Hi,

When I install and boot up Win 98 on my new computer i get a message: Error
while initializing NDIS. Please Reboot.
I can only boot up in safe mode. I read something about a problem with
processors over 2gHz (mine is 2.6).
Has anyone experienced this or know anything abut it ?

Why are you putting Win98 on a new computer? Where do you expect to get
drivers for a modern machine for an OS that old? If you what to use
Windoze then buy a copy of XP. Better yet use Linux, you can download a
copy of Mandrake 10.1 Community or Fedora Core 2 for free, either one is
light years ahead of any version of Windows let alone an antique like
Win98.

We're running Linux (Knoppix) ATM but my family are very impatient and want
to get back to Windows. We have a Win98 disk from an old computer so I
thought I'd give that a go.

Generally speaking, it's usually pretty easy to find Win98
drivers for new boards. Sometimes the audio requires at
least 98SE though.

Main thing about Win98 is tweaking it and recognizing it's
limits. For all the talk of instability back in it's day,
it seems quite a bit more stable using today's drivers
compared to those released at the time. One box hee runs it
for basic uses and legacy apps, crashes so seldom that it's
noteworthy when it happens... but then it is not set up for
power-use beyond an occasional older game.

Boy oh boy! He did say an NDIS error! In safe mode, delete your network
card, trash everything in your Network control applet and I mean
everything, then reboot the system.

win98 on your _new_ computer?
sounds fishy.

What's fishy about not wanting to buy WinXP if you don't
NEED XP?

Why would Microsoft sell full licenses at all if this wasn't
exactly what their purpose was?
