Win98/ME Installation Files

My laptop has a 4.3GB harddrive and I recently upgraded from 98se to
XP. Is it safe to delete the Win98 installation files through Disk
Cleanup to free more space. I currently have 1.5GB free but these
files are huge. I have a restore disk for the laptop with 98se if I
decide to go back.

Greetings

Yes you can delete them. Just remember if you decide to go back you will
lose all your data on that drive, the restore disk will make it just like
the day you bought it.

Thanks! I'll get rid of them then because I don't plan to go back if
XP keeps working this good. I like 98se but needed XP for online
college.

Go ahead. All that the stored files are doing is allowing you to put
things back just as they were before the upgrade, without any need to
reinstall software, retrieve data, etc. It is really only useful for a
short time - should the XP installation just not work out

You can do it in Add/Remove Programs. That will have a, 'Uninstall
Windows'. If you take it, you will have the option of doing so, *or* of
removing the files - and the entry in Add/Remove
