I just installed WinXP on a brand new hard drive. I connected my old drive (that has Win98) in order to copy my files over. However, WinXP does not recognize the drive and assign it a drive letter.

The drive exists in the Device Manager, but for some reason WinXP does not give it a letter.

Naturally this is quite distressing. Any way around it?

Hi Scott,
I am having same problem. If you find answer, please
advise to my email address. I'll do the same.
Thanks

Did you go into the BIOS and set it
on auto for the 98 hdd? And did you
make sure the main (new hdd), and
the 98 hdd's jumpers, were set to master
and slave? If theyre on the same IDE
connections on the motherboard?

If you've forgotten to set the jumpers,
the system (1) may not see the 98 hdd
if you havent gone into the BIOS and set it on
AUTO. or (2) It maybe getting confused, if you
forgot to set the 98 hdd to slave (If it was master
before). The new hdd maybe set to master
as well?
