I am having problems with 1 of our subnets. Windows 98 machines are not
authenticating to the AD. They receive a message that the user name or
password is incorrect. I have tried multiple users and get the same result.
If I put a win2k/XP machine on this subnet all works fine. So I believe it
is a WINS issues. One if the servers did have incorrect IP address listed in
WINS, it was listing the remote management card as a valid IP address. I
removed this, but this morning the Win98 clients are still having problems.
There is a managed switch in-between the subnet and the Wins server (which
is on a different subnet).

Is there a way to test WINS resolution for a win98 machine? Any other ideas?

Is this computer even showing up in WINS?
Did you install the AD client on the 9x PCs?

Yes the Pcs are showing up in WINS

And yes i have tried both version of the AD client for Win98.

I have also found KB artice 272594 and added this hot fix.

And can you ping one of the DCs by IP address and by name?

Yes. I am also able to do a NBTSTAT -A x.x.x.x and receive all the wins
entries for the DC. These entries match other win98 machines in a different
subnet that are able to connect.
