Win7 Newsgroups

Where are the Win7 newsgroups hiding?

Unfortunately there are no Microsoft Windows 7 newsgroups, and it's
highly unlikely that there will be any. Apparently Microsoft has
decided that web-based forums are better than newsgroups and they are
putting their efforts there. I'm personally sorry that's the case, but
it's their decision, not mine.

However there is at least one non-Microsoft Windows 7 newsgroup:
alt-windows7.general. Not all servers carry it (at least not yet), but
here's one free news server that does: aioe.org

Having been involved with MS, I'm sure they formed a Focus Group, and
the dialog went something like this:

MS: "Here's our new web forum for ad-hoc field support"

Focus Group: "Some of us like web forums, but many like newsgroups.
Can we still have newsgroups?"

MS: "Here's the demo. Notice how we let you choose an avatar and
select just the forums you want to see. We're going to call it
'Support Live'"

Focus Group: "Great, do you have those newsgroups we wanted?"

MS: "Let us show you how you can customize the web forum to mark
messages as read and display just the new messages".

Focus Group: "Nice, but it's not a newsgroup. You don't seem to be
listening to us. Can we have them?"

MS: "Sorry, time is up for today, we'll relay your concerns to the
development staff".

Unfortunately you can fill in most any MS product here, and the
process is the same. They invent the "solutions" based on whatever
they have already decided to do, then ask questions designed only to
solicit responses that fit their pre-determined answers.

Where are the Win7 newsgroups hiding?
Thanks

NONE FROM MICROSOFT, JUST FYI! ONLY FORUMS ON MICROSOFT TECH NET! I
WOULD HARDLY CALL THAT A SOLUTION, HOWEVER, BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS DELETE
MY POSTS, EVEN IF THEY ARE ON TOPIC, JUST FYI!

The reality is that Microsoft wants to moderate it. Sort of like hide
the ugly of Win7.

While these groups contain a lot of garbage, you do get the odd posts
that are of high value and you would not see on a moderated board.

+Bob+ mate you are a bit of a worry. Looks like you have got MS well sized
up with their political speak diatribe. Afraid to say it is the attitude
with anything American these days, fifth rate crap, no service attitude, any
rubbish will do. Having lived and worked in China and Japan for a number of
years, not hard to see why the US is in the death throws.
You only have to look at Win7 to see what true fifth rate mediocrity looks
like, and we will decide what you want. Cannot even find anywhere to not
repeatedly every day get the MS Update downloads you don't want. So you
have to resort to turning Windows Update off completely. MS Update keeps
wanting to give me 150Mb MS Office downloads. I don't use MS Office. The
first thing when I received this new laptop was remove MS Office limited
working model then pay mega dollars after 30 uses for over priced terrible
to use crap. I did not open Office 2007 once Office is such a dog. We use
OpenOffice. We could turn off the updates you did not want in XP, why the
hell not in Win7. Like the MS Live spyware crap e-mail, so you have to use
Thunderbird which is poor compared to Outlook Express. Explorer in Win7 is
crap compared to XP and Win7 locks us out of our own files in "Documents and
Settings" (Any idea how I can get in there) Win7 should have been half
price compared to XP as contains half the stuff and is fifth rate Yankee
over priced crap because MS can as they have no competition.

Dave thanks I will follow those links you kindly posted.

I did see the alt.windows7.general but thought so mistakingly that there
would be a full range of Windows 7 forums on the MS News Server. Shows the
disinterest in Windows7 by MS and how they don't want to hear what a fifth
rate piece of now what we expect and get from the US - CRAP. Only another
Vista cloan with a few bug fixes.

Perhaps Google if they do come out with an OS can bring respect to attention
to detail and quality back to the US shores.

And exactly what are the world-recognized names of the Aussie produced OSs?
Go back to shagging 'roos, matie.

Only another

Note the typo. It's alt.windows7.general, not alt-windows7.general

I also see it on a couple of other free servers, albasani and Eternal
September.

news.albasani.net
news.eternal-september.org

Thanks for pointing it out. I hadn't noticed.

Yes, it's started to get to other servers now.

You can connect to the forum in Windows Mail, and, likely, Windows Live
Mail.
Download NNTPBridge from Microsoft'.s Web site.

The server address in the Mail reader will be 127.0.0.1
You have to possess a Windows Live (hotmail) address .
the server's port num ber : 119

Sorry for my English. Instructins may be available in the Windows Forum

Yes, it's started to get to other servers now.

I also have noticed that Albasani and Eternal September seem to add
other newsgroups quite frequently. This newsreader (MesNews) keeps
telling me that there are new NGs on those two servers :-)

Right-click on the update you don't want and select "Hide update". For
instance you can right click on the Office Live 1.4 update and hide it - it
won't bother you again.

No. They just want the filthy talk out.

P.S.

What I mean is the carryings on of the trolls - there's already a filter-
but they carry on insulting each other at length - interfering with the
technical support and so on. So my guess - and it is a guess - is that the
Microsoft people are trying something different to see how it works out.

If you must have a newsgroup for Windows 7 there is an unmoderated newsgroup
on usenet for Windows 7:

alt.windows7.general

You can use the aioe.org servers to get it for free if your ISP doesn't
provide the particular newsgroup or newsgroup service.

STILL NOT YET AVAILABLE ON GOOGLE GROUPS, JUST FYI!
