Win386.swp ?

What is Win386.swp, size 93,304KB?
The icon is a question mark.
NOD32 version 1.1412(20060216) shows it as:
error opening (File locked) [4]
and Notes: File cannot be opened. It may be in use
by another application or operating system.

Clicking on it in Find gives me:
The C:\WINDOWS\WIN 386.SWP file is not a WQindows Help
file, or the file is corrupted
Should I let NOD32 'clean' it?

Thanks David. Sorry. I looked before sending this as it
almost rang a bell,
but didn't locate. Sorry for being a 'pest' ;-/

It's the Windows 95/98/98SE/ME Swap File (.SWP) used for virtual memory
on the HDD. It's locked to prevent outside access. NOD32 and a few other
AV programs report that they can't access Win386.swp. Most other AV
programs act the same way but don't report the results.

Just an additional observation: if you have an AV-program
which can be run under pure DOS, such as F-Prot for example,
it will open & and handle the Swap File in W98 etc. If run
under Windows, it doesn´t.

Normally, I use NOD32, though. An excellent program.

Another observation: if you add to the autoexec.bat,
say

ATTRIB -H -S -A C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP
ECHO.>C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP

the Swapfile will be reduced to a 2 byte file. I do this as a matter of
course.
