Hi all,
I have a pc with winxp pro installed with all the updtes
installed , initially it worked fine but since last few
days it started rebooting suddenly on seeing the evnt
viewer i saw the following error a nuber of times
"The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time
from one or more time sources , however none of the
sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a
sorce will be made for 14 minutes. NtpClient has no source
of accurate time."
Can somebody tell me if this could be the reson for it or
is it some hardware problem
..

Unable to connect to a time server should not cause a reboot.

Reboots may be virus related, do you have up to date antivirus software and
a firewall running ?

If not these are free www.grisoft.com www.zonelabs.com

It may be a restart is masking a real system crash.

Are there any entries in event viewer in the system log, labelled save dump
or system error. These are what get created if the system crashes.

It will restart automatically after a crash, by default.

To stop this go

control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery settings

and uncheck automatically restart.

Then you'll get a blue screen with all the details if it does crash.

To clarify the time server problem, check on your time settings. Are you a
home user getting your time from an internet time server, or on a corporate
network getting your time from an internal server.
Check by double clicking on the clock on the bottom right hand side of
screen, click on inteernet time tab
Mine is set to time.windows.com
Click update now, after 10-15 secs it should come back with the time
updated.

You maybe got these errors because you weren't connected to the internet
when it last tried to synchronize.
