Hi.Hope you can help. I'm computer illiterate.
I'm using Windows XP and have loads of problems. The lastest is that I get
a window that says:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs
to close.
I have to re-start in order to get on the internet. Also, when I click on
some links, I either get a blank, white page, nothing works, or a white page
with half a line of text that looks like it may be part of a URL.
Most of the time I can't get into a Newsgroup, so please e-mail me at
(e-mail address removed).
Thank you in advance for any help

Hi,
Not sure, but for the Generic Host Process problem this might help:
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Add/remove programs> Add/remove Windows
components> Networking services (select)> Details> UNcheck Universal Plug &
Play. OK your way out.

For the other problem, check for malware with CWShredder, Ad-awareSE and
Spybot. See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security
tips on that
page.

Additional information at:

More security tips at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Hope this helps,

Hi Don,
When I went into "Add and Remove Programs", "Windows Components" was not
listed. The only thing that said "Windows" on it was several "Windows Hot
Fixs". Is this what I'm looking for?

Don, when I clicked on "Add/Remove Windows Components", a message popped up
saying, "Windows XP Setup: Another copy of this setup program is running.
Please wait until the other setup is complete before attempting to run this
program." I didn't do anything. I closed out everything until I could talk
to you.

Sorry, I lost track of this thread. I don't know why that message popped up,
unless you double-clicked that button and didn't give it time to open.
