This : "win32 kernel core component" keeps coming up in my new Sygate
firewall. Looks suspicious so I blocked it. What is it? If it's a virus then
I imagine it's removal is possible.

Info appreciated.

win32 kernel or kernel32.dll is part of the Windows O/S and it's not a
virus use Google and look it up. If you have blocked it because the
personal FW with its worthless Application Control has you paranoid and
you're having no ill affects of doing so, then you can block it.

However, may I suggest that you not depend on PFW solution like a crutch,
which can be defeated by malware and look around from time to time for
yourself with the proper tools.

I'll assume you have an NT based O/S like XP.

You should look into securing or tightening the O/S, because the buck stops
there and not with PFW, AV or anything else.

There is one of Win 2K too by the same people. The link is just a guide

I wouldn't trust any Windows O/S as far as I could through a building
somewhere and will take the proper measures to protect it. There is very
little you can do for a root based O/S like Win 9'x. However, no one is
coming after the outdated Win 9's O/S so you're kind of safe in that
regard.
