Windows 2000 was extensively tested before it was released,
and it is used on millions of PCs. If your machine has problems
then it would be reasonable to assume that they are caused by
something specific to your PC, not by Windows 2000 itself
as you suggest in your Subject line. Becoming aware of this
helps you greatly in resolving the problem.

See below for further suggestions.

Some prelimiary issues you must resolve:
- Install a good virus scanner.
- Download the latest pattern file.
- Scan your hard disk.
- Download a spyware program (e.g. AdAware).
- Download its latest pattern file.
- Run it.
- Download the diagnostic program for your hard disk.
It's freely available from the manufacturer's home site.
- Run this diagnostic program.
- Run your system with only 512 MBytes of memory,
and see what happens.
- If the problems persist, run it with the other 512 MBytes.
