Hi Guys,

I have an HP Proliant DL380G4 running windows 2003 std.
It has 4GB RAM installed and this is verified in POST and from the HP
Systems Managent Software, however, Windows reports that it only has 3.5GB

Any ideas?

Have you set any memory shading?

32-bit Pentium 4 can address 4GB max.
The "missing" 0.5GB is reserved by design for
- Videocard memory
- Memory mapped I/O
It is impossible to use these 0.5GB of RAM.

Not exactly true. I believe the G4 has PC-Express I/O. That maps high memory
but then doesn't use that memory. The memory never gets released during POST
so it is blocked from the OS. It really comes down to a BIOS problem for
Intel (other vendors have the same issue). Last I heard Intel did not have a
fix. Since you got the machine from HP, whack them for the problem.

But, as stated, at the moment there is nothing you can do other than
complain to HP.
