I just got a PC refresh and now use Win2k and Word2000. It has an
irritating bug.

In NT4 with Word97 it was possible to work efficiently using ONE window
for each application.

I am so far unable to get this work in Word2000.

For EACH document I open there pops up a new window, this bug is
extremelly irritating and disables efficient work.

Can this bug be fixed or do I have to continiue working inefficient
until I get rid of the whole )/%&)/¤??

Hi - try a Word group for best results. I don't think you can change this
behavior, but the Word gurus may know something.....

Microsoft did this because it makes Internet Explorer, MSN, and other
Microsoft products look normal.

Actually it is quite an interesting bit of corporate spin. Back in the
days of Windows 3.0 and 3.1 many applications could open only one file
at a time. Microsoft spent a fortune getting application developers to
enable the multiple document interface (MDI). But now that it's become
profitable to Microsoft to go back to single document interface (SDI),
the MDI interface is suddenly considered out of date and backwards.

Microsoft Office 2000 is SDI only. Many users complained, and if you
go to microsoft.public.word.docmanagement there are people who can
steer you to a free macro that supposedly restores the MDI interface
to Office 2000.

There was such screaming from customers that Microsoft Office XP and
2003 give the user the option to switch to MDI. But then you have to
deal with activation every time you change something in your computer,
not to mention the cost of an upgrade that otherwise adds no benefits
to the user. A better solution would be to scrap 2000 and find an old
copy of Office 97 on eBay.

Okay, I have that, an unopened Office97 pack!

The funny thing is - Excel still works properly in 2000 edition.

Thanks for the info,
