Upgraded from Windows 98 to Win2K. Now, when I click on
Start->Search Files/Folders, system attempts to
install "Microsoft Office 2000 Premium" Cannot be
cancelled as long as Search Files/Folders is open. 100%
repeatable. Any Fix For This?

Sounds like yet another in the saga of corrupt upgrades. Always best to do a
clean install.

My problem is similar to Roger Kirk's.

I upgraded my computer from Win ME to Win 2000. At the
end of the upgrade, Windows installer said there were
Office XP files that needed updating and kept asking me to
insert the Office XP Standard Edition CD.

I was planning to upgrade the office from XP to 2003 so I
didn't worry. I ran the Office installation but Windows
Installer keeps popping up at odd times, (like when I do a
file search) asking me to insert the Office XP Standard
Edition CD.

I don't think I have this CD anymore. Lost in a move
somewhere.

Any options other than a clean re-install of everything?

Thanks Dave,
But having done this, and installed Office 2003, is it
safe to delete all Office XP entries in the registry?

Is this likely to stop the Windows Installer from
repeatedly asking to insert the Office XP disk?

There is no supported upgrade path from WinME to Windows 2000
