Running Win2k Pro w/ SP4. I let windows update install a
couple of security patches on Friday evening, 10-17-2003.
Now my computer will not boot up correctly. It gets to the
splash screen where it says 'Windows is booting up' and
about 2/3's of the progress bar, and then it reboots. It
is in a loop. I do not recive any error meassages.

Any Ideas?

TIA.

Have you tried unplugging any USB-devices and restarting
with all of those unplugged? When it hangs at twothirds
it's often due to a problem with a USB-device.

You can't be serious? I let Windows Update install 4
security patches and now I have to unplug my USB devices
to get my computer to run. Sorry, but I don't concur.

Kevin,

I got the same exact problem. I am trying 20 different
things to try to resolve this. If I figure it out, I will
email you - can you do the same please? My email is
(e-mail address removed)

I don't see this problem listed anywhere on this site,
although I do see I can pay Micro$oft $245 to talk to a
service representative...

Thanks

could also boot from CD and undertake a "repair" might work,
or methodically remove patchjes applied

Well, it happened to me before. I only got it back to work
(after trying to start for 7 times) after unplugging my
USB-hub and the scanner, and then restarting after
plugging it back in. It seemed a ridiculous thing to do
but it worked for me. I know it sounds a bit odd, but
well, I got the tip from someone (a microsoft engineer at
HP) and it worked.
