What type of authentication protocol u use? Because Win98
doesnt support MS-CHAP v2 or higher.

If it's an encryption issue, it could be that you have
IPsec enabled as "Secure server" on the Dial-UP
connection?

This 2K pro - is it part of domain ?

Thanks for your response.

I've tried using "Allow unsecured password" and also
unencrypted password (PAP) with all other protocols
disabled from Win2k so no, I'm not using CHAP v2 or higher.

Do you mean IPSec on the remote dial-up server?

My Win2k is part of a domain but I have also tried it away
from the domain, ie workgroup.

Didn't notice the "Allow older MS-CHAP version for Windows
95 servers" before. I am going to try that. Anything else
you might be able to suggest?

Regards
Steve

About IPSec - go to "Options" Tab of "Advanced TCP/IP
settings" on WIN2K computer. There check the Properties
of "IP security" and see if its enabled. If so -
select "Don't use IPSec".
One more thing - did you try to logon using fresh
installation of WIN2K on another PC ?

After correspondance with an escalation engineer at
microsoft I have found the solution. Thanks anyway.

Steve
