Hi there I wonder if any one can help me?

On the old win9x there was the win386.swap file, which users were
advised to delete from time to time, due to fragmentation. Is there an
equivalent file, or an equivalent procedure, to speed up file access on the
win2k platform?

This is a windows2000, upgraded from win98, upgraded from win95,
which means fat32 throughout.

The best thing you can do is a clean install.

Run the defrag applet. You can look for instances of *.dmp files and delete
them. Typically these will be about 1.5 times the size of system RAM.

NT4 and above does not SWAP, it uses backing store in a file called
pagefile.sys, and no you may not delete it unless you want the system to NOT
use virtual memory. Deleting the file will only promote piss poor
performance. When the system crashes, it writes pagefile to a DMP file
according to the Performance and Startup/Recovery options you set in System
Properties. You can adjust the size of pagefile in System Properties and/or
move it to another disk.
