Win2K SP4 Logon not working when network connection or Domain not available

For some reason my PC running Win2K SP4 won't let me login
when it's not connected to my corporate network anymore.
It used to work fine. Now, it'll only let me in when I am
on the corporate LAN with my credentials. It won't let me
in without the LAN connection using my credentials like I
used to i.e. not logging in from Cached Credentials I
guess? I have played with domain name vs. local machine.
I can login as an admin to the local machine though, but
not with my user profile.

Apparently the lan was configured to not allow cached credential logons anymore. If
that is a problem, contact your IT support group. --- Steve

I found a KB article - 824302 which addresses my exact
symptoms - "The System Cannot Log You On Now Because the
Domain <Domainname> Is Not Available"

I called Microsoft and downloaded/installed the hotfix
they sent me, the problem is still there. I checked my
registry and the logonscached is set to 10 (default).

Not sure what else to do...Microsoft wants to charge $250
to connect me to a technical person.

Help!

Check your Local Security Policy for "effective settings" for that security option to
see if it still shows 10. If it does, then you do have some other problem and it may
help to look in Event Viewer for any clues and run netdiag on your computer looking
for any failed tests that may help pinpoint the problem. If nothing helps and since
you are a local administrator try changing the setting to zero, rebooting the
computer, change it back to ten and reboot again. Then log onto the live domain, log
off and unplug the computer and see if it works again by trying to logon. --- Steve
