Win2K SP4 - Delay when right-clicking on shortcuts

Since I have installed SP4, I have a 30 second delay when
right-clicking on any shortcut to a file on a local or
network drive. I do not get the same delay when right-
clicking on a shortcut to a URL.

I posted this problem a while back - I've seen a few
posters to this newsgroup with similar problems, but
haven't seen any solutions so far. What I have noticed on
my network since then is that if I disable my network card
(3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 PCI - 3C905C-TX), the delay goes
away. I found an updated driver on the MS web site and
installed it with no improvement.

We have a small network with a Novell NetWare 4.10 server
and 5 desktops running MS Windows 2000 Professional with
Novell Client v4.81. We are running IPX/SPX for the
Novell server and TCP/IP for windows printer sharing and
internet connection. Booting the computer with the
network cable unplugged doesn't seem to help; only
disabling the NIC seems to work so far.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with sp4 and Novell.
After you said you disabled your LAN card
and the problem went away I disabled just
the Novell client on mine and the problem
went away.

I've updated the Novell CLient software to version
4.83sp2 and the problem seems to have disappeared
with the exception of the first few times I try to
right click on a shortcut.
After that it works the same as before I installed sp4.

Hopefully this helps or at least gives someone else an
idea for a more thorough solution.

Are you running Novell? If so upgrade to the latest client. I was
having the same problem but an upgrade helped a little. It did not
fix it completely. Just an idea...
