Win2k Server Sp4 GPO's not applying to XP SP2 Clients

Hello :o)

I am trying to control my WXP SP2 client with GPO's via my Windows 2000
Server SP4 domain, however several (not all) of the policies have created do
not apply on the XP SP2 workstations (XP SP1 work fine), i have noticed that
its is mostly the "Internet Explorer Maintenence" settings (e.g. IE
proxy/security settings).

So simply the GPO that works ok XP SP1 clients doesn't on XP SP2.

I have tried using the SP2 .adm's and also the new GPO mmc addin.

any suggestions?

If you run gpresult or, from GPMC, RSoP logging against one of those SP2
machines, does it tell you whether they are actually receiving the IE
Maintenance policy?

When i run RSoP the mmc snapin, from my client the 'Precedence' Tab shows my
ProxyConfig GPO (at the top of the list) and <enabled> but the proxy
properties are all blank.

When i run GPO Result on a SP2 Client from within GPMC the 'Settings' tab
indicates that the IE Maintenance settings have been applied, but strangley
the 'Winning GPO' is the Default Domain Policy which doesn't have IE
Maintenance settings in it?

The Plot thickens!!
 
Ok, next step is, on one of the SP2 clients, logged on as the problem user,
check out the brndlog.txt file that exists under their profile in
Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Custom Settings. That might
give a clue as to what is going on.

Ok now it becomes complicated!

because we use Citrix/MS TS my users have had there AppData redirected via a
different GPO to a network drive (which seems to work ok), any how i checked
the brndlog.txt on a problem user and there were no errors and seemed to
indicate that all was well. (see below)

10/06/2004 16:25:03 Processing proxy settings from the ins
file...
10/06/2004 16:25:03 "Flags" is set to 0x3.
10/06/2004 16:25:03 "ProxyServer" is set to
"web-proxy.xxxxxxxxx.com:8080".
10/06/2004 16:25:03 "ProxyBypass" is set to etc....

althoug the last update to this file was 6th oct 04. is this file updated at
every logon?

where now?

I have the same problem, I'm using 2003 domain WinXP clients,
the problem happens when the machine is upgraded to SP2.
all he users that have their Application Data folder redirected are not
getting the IE maintenance setting from the GPO, every thing else works, I
even tried new users but still once the GPO for redirecting Application Data
folder is applied the IE maintenace settings are failing.
I'm using a logon script temporarly for setting the IE proxy and home page.
