hey guys i hope someone can help me out. i am having huge
troubles at my office trying to do an upgrade of the
machines to 2000 server and xp clients. i installed the
software and set up the network to use tcp/ip. i have a
router that issues ip addresses already and i have taken
out all the filters and crap out of that already. now the
problem is that i can see the server from the xp machines
using the ping command it works great. i cant see the xp
machines from the server or any of the other win9x
machines. The old win9x machines can see each other and
the server and the server can see them no problems there.
what the heck is going on???how do i correct this i need
to know asap so i can get the new computers installed
asap.

Are you logging into the XP boxes with a user name and
password that exists on the server?

Is the server configured as a domain controller or
workgroup server? And is the workstation configured
appropriately for either a workgroup or domain controller?

What are the IP addresses being assigned to the XP boxes
are they in the same network as the Win98 and the server?

Review the Microsoft Knowledge base article number 258717
and see if that helps.
