I'm looking for answers to a new problem that has been coming to my
attention alot here recently. When a remote user is working at home and
plugs into the network, they are receiving the following message when they
log in for the first time:
Windows cannot create profile directory \\server2\profiles\username.pds. You
will be logged on with a local profile only. Changes to the profile will not
be propagated to the server. Contact your network administrator.

Any suggestions on why this is happening?

Now wait, a remote user plugs in at home? What do you
mean? They have a T1 in their house which is somehow
setup to be fully connected to the office?

If this isn't the case, the error you're getting indicates
that you're using roaming profiles and not storing a
cached copy of it localled so that when a user does go
remote, they cannot use it without being FIRST connected
to the office network. Look in your group policy for a
settting that saves a roaming profile locally for remote
users. I do believe there's a setting for this.

They are using roaming profiles, but have been told they don't have
Group Policies setup. Can you give me some places to look to verify
that they don't have them on?
