I installed Microsoft's Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000
Professional. Since then, whenever I right-click on a
shortcut on my desktop, it takes about 30 seconds for the
context menu to appear. Right-clicking on items in other
directories does not have the same delay. If I go to the
desktop folder in Windows Explorer and right-click, I get
the delay.

I tried unintalling SP4 and the delay was gone. Tried re-
installing and the delay is back.

So far, I haven't noticed any other reproducible
problems. The delay has not become a debilitating
problem, but it is obviously very annoying. Has anyone
else had similar problems?

I am running Windows 2000 Professional with a Pentium 3
1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 18.6 GB hard drive with nearly
75% unused.

I am on a Novell NetWare 4.10 network using Novel Client
for Windows NT v4.81.

I am also running McAfee ViruScan v4.5.1 with scan engine
4.2.60.

I have installed SP4 on 4 computers (laptops and desktops)
and I got the same result for all of them. I have
uninstalled the Service Pack and everything went back to
normal. It looks like you and I are the only ones having
this particular problem (or no one has noticed it yet).

I have just tried it on a couple of the PC's here I have
SP4 on. On both it takes 3-4 seconds to display the
context menu.

In any Office XP app, such as Word 2002, go to Help, Detect and Repair. Run
through that and see if it helps.
