I'm running Win2K Pro and have an old TI MicroLaser Pro E attached to
the fast Ethernet network via an AsanteTalk bridge. on my Win2K
machine, I've added the Appletalk Protocol to my currently enabled
network connection properties. When I use the Add Printer wizard to
Create a New Port Type: Appletalk Printing Device, however, I get this
error "This operation cannot be completed because Appletalk protocol is
currently not running." But AppleTalk Protocol is currently enabled on
the active network connection setting.

What else do I need to do to print from the Win2K Pro machine to the TI
laser attached to the Ethernet LAN via an Appletalk bridge?

Thanks!

Although you see Appletalk listed in your NIC's properties pane, is it
checkmarked? It should be before it will be useful.

Hope this helps! bill

Yes, the Appletalk Protocol's box is checked, just as are those for TCP/IP,
etc.
I rebooted, etc., but it does not seem to make any difference. Does it
matter whether my profile has Admin privileges?

Hi Jon!

No. Admin won't matter just to view the properties of the NIC.

All I can suggest at this point is to use the Add/Remove Control Panel
to remove the Appletalk protocol, reboot and then add Appletalk to your
machine again. Something may have gone wrong during your initial install.

Does the Win2K machine have to be running some of the Server functions? I really don't want to "capture" the TI laserprinter, I just want the Win2K machine to be able to send jobs to it, like the Mac on the network.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

Hi Jon!

Windows 2000 Professional can use the Appletalk protocol to print to
Appletalk printers. You don't need the server features until you want to
enable file sharing to Macs.
