Hello,

My desktop, running Win2k, is on a network with a laptop
running WinXP. They've been running on this network for
about five months, flawlessly. However, this morning, I
downloaded, updated, and ran SpywareBlaster, choosing to
click the 'Enable All Protection' option.

I'm not *positive* that this is when my problem began,
but I don't recall doing anything else after closing that
program and trying to visit a webpage in IE. I noticed I
couldn't, despite the fact that I hadn't knowingly
changed any settings, getting the "The page cannot be
displayed" error.

Basically, the desktop has been knocked completely off
the network. From it, I can neither access the laptop
nor utilize the internet connection; on the same note, I
cannot access the desktop from the laptop. The router
shows only one computer being connected to it, and I've
verified that all wires etc are firmly plugged in.

I can ping 127.0.0.1 from the desktop without having a
problem, but it does not recognize host names such as
www.microsoft.com, and does not send packets through to
207.47.250.119

On the desktop, I "Disabled All Protection" in
SpywareBlaster to see if that changed the situation at
all, which it hasn't.

I'm terribly confused and would appreciate any help that
could be given to me. I'm also in a rut because I
haven't got a way to transfer a program like LSPFix to
the desktop from the laptop due to an error with the CD
drive. (If the situation weren't making me want to pull
my hair out, I'd be laughing!)

The laptop experienced a moment of trouble with "The page
cannot be displayed" but a simple reboot changed that,
and now I'm using it and it's running flawlessly.

Thanks ahead of time,
Tatiana.

Did you reboot the desktop?

Yes, I've rebooted the desktop.

I'm thinking that the laptop, since it's on a wireless
connection, is actually picking up someone else's signal,
because there are two connection icons in its tray: One
saying the LAN is down, the other saying the wireless
connection is up.
