I had a Windows 2000 Pro machine used in stand alone mode with Office 2000
installed. Besides the Administrator account, there was only another
account: Phil.
A Windows 2000 Server was finally installed and the domain MGMTEAM created.
I created a user Phil in Active Directory Users and Computers, and then
changed the settings on my workstation to log onto the domain MGMTEAM.
Once I logged onto my workstation, I realised that a new profile
Phil.MGMTEAM was created in "Documents and Settings". I was not too happy
and figured I could simply copy everything from the old Phil profile to the
new Phil.MGMTEAM profile but even before I did this, I hit a big wall: none
of the Office 2000 applications wanted to run. Everytime I try to run them,
I get a dialog box that says it is trying to install them. I tried inserting
the original Office 2000 CDs but the install module does not even look on
the CD and says it could not find a valid source. After cancelling a few
more dialog boxes, I can finally run the application without any further
problem. Unfortunately, it is the same scenario everytime I try to run any
of the Office 2000 applications.
Relogging as the old Phil, ie without specifying the domain, solves all the
problems.
So, how is one suppose to migrate from stand alone to networked? What is the
workaround? Why does it see Phil on the domain as a new user? How can I tell
Windows 2000 Pro that it is the same user?
