I have a small win2k domain running active directory. Several W2k servers
and professional machines + one NT 4 server. Was working fine for a while
and then started having problems accessing directories and files. Could
still connect with Computer Management MMC, but unable to do much in there.
Was then getting this error:

"The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's
computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on
that account is incorrect."

....which is documented and has fix on MS KB at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;175024

I ran NETDOM.exe as prescribed and it generated the following error:

"The procedure entry point DnsHostname ToComputerNameW could not locate in
the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

Please help!

You are probably using the netdom from NT 4.0 on a W2K system? (Well I hope
:)

I have seen errors like this with other tools. Try the netdom.exe from the
W2K ResKit, and see if you have better luck.

Another idea is just to rejoin the problem workstation to the domain. :)

Brian,

I've tried both versions of the netdom tool from the domain and from the nt4
machine with no luck. I've tried rejoining, with no luck.

Hmmm I'm not sure. Looking it up internally I haven't found anything. Is the
error as you typed in the previous message? i.e. spelled and looks the same?

Also you might want to post this to the AD newsgroup as well.

I think this worked...what I had failed to do apparently is restart the
domain controller...it would be nice if that were indicated somewhere.

A hefty thanks for all of you who helped me along on this.
