Hi-
In the VERY early stages of a win2k DC installation. I just finally am able
to ping the router on our network, but I can't ping other workstations.
Everything is plugged into the same switch, so it's very weird.

I'm a newb. to networking, just trying to help out a friend. I'm
wondering... what would the pros think if they could ping a router and not
other machines(time out)? Where would you start to look for problems?

Thanks in advance, seriously.... ANY help would be great on this HOT Friday
afternoon.

How many nics in the server and how are they setup? Is DHCP and DNS
installed? What OS on the clients? Does an ipconfig/all from a client show
that everything is pointing to the server-IP?

what do you mean *point*?
how exactly does one *point* to the server and what does one *point*?
thanks much,

If you let the clients obtain an IP automatically as well as the DNS, then
everything is being set through your DHCP-server. It will then automatically
point to your server-IP, if you have setup the servernic(s) right, as well
as DHCP and DNS.
